Florida International University School of Music held its fourth annual FIU Percussion Day on Monday, February 15, 2021, from 3:00-6:00pm via Zoom. The event was open to middle school, high school, and college percussion students, band directors, and percussion enthusiasts.
The day’s activities included a clinic with FIU faculty member Dr. Karlyn Viña, performances by FIU Percussion Studio members, and a masterclass where students could work with Dr. Viña on Solo and Ensemble repertoire. Participants received a Zoom link upon registration.
Dr. Karlyn Viña, praised for her performances by the South Florida Classical Review, is a dynamic percussionist and faculty member at FIU. She has an active freelance career and works with percussion students in various programs. Additionally, she teaches private lessons, serves on the Percussive Arts Society’s Education Committee, and is a co-host on the @Percussion Podcast. In the summers, she teaches at Interlochen Arts Camp.
